Abstract

Alman, Alfonsius 2026. An Analysis of Moral Values in the Blue Miracle Movie. Thesis of the Department of English Education, Faculty, Widya Gama Mahakam Samarinda University. Godefridus Bali Gerola, M.Pd guided this research as the first supervisor and Widi Syahtia Pane, M.Pd as the second supervisor. This study analyzes the moral values portrayed in the movie "Blue Miracle," a true story about an orphanage struggling with financial hardship. Using a qualitative descriptive approach and pragmatic analysis, the research applied moral value frameworks from Leisinger (2019) and Linda Eyre (1993) to classify the moral values expressed in characters' dialogues and actions. The findings identified 27 instances across 11 types of moral values, with friendliness and kindness (6 instances), honesty (5), and love and affection (5) as the most dominant values. Other values found included self-confidence and potential (4), courage (3), peace of ability (2), self- discipline and moderation (1), and justice and mercy (1). Notably, fidelity, chastity, loyalty, and respect were not present in the movie, which was focused on rescuing orphans rather than on romantic or societal respect themes. The study suggests that "Blue Miracle" serves as an effective educational tool for promoting moral development, emphasizing virtues such as honesty, kindness, and love. It recommends that educators use films to help students recognize and practice moral values in daily life, thereby enhancing both personal growth and social harmony.
